                  The Dentist

                  Picture
... But in this particular session, not only did I have two cavities, but the dental hygienist also used the electric scaler for the cleaning - a first for me.  For those unfamiliar, a scaler is the standard spikey metal tool used to poke holes in your gums, but this one is electronic, so it vibrates, poking more holes in your gums in less time with less effort.  A wonderful piece of technology, this electrified gum-poker is.  And at the conclusion of this gum-poking session, she informed me that my gums were bleeding quite a lot.  Surprise! ...

                  Penn & Teller

                  Picture
Have you ever been to Vegas? To be honest, I find it a bit too sensational. Literally, wherever you look, your senses are stimulated. Or assaulted, maybe. Yes, assaulted. And it all seems a bit fake to me – like one big illusion.

Me being the curious type, I asked each one the same question as we snapped photos: “After all these years of performing, what keeps you going?”   ...READ MORE...

                  Oreos

                  Picture
...Canadians and Americans like different flavours of Oreos. She didn’t say what, exactly, was different – the chocolaty biscuit, the gooey white sandwich cream, or whatever other magical parts there might be – but the two countries have different recipes.  It requires double machinery to prepare different cookies, and try as they might, Kraft could not get people’s tastes to change, nor could they find an Oreo that satisfied both groups! ...  And this got me thinking: Would we be better off if everyone liked the same flavour of Oreos?

                  The Kindness of Strangers

                  Picture
...I speed walk through the labyrinth shortcut in the mall, smoothly gliding around oncoming shoppers. I burst back onto the street. GO Route 16, QEW Express to Union Station is already stopped and has its door open 100 paces away. The choice: bolt left for the bus or make a run for the next stop, farther away, but on the other side of two stoplights (which, with a little luck, would be red for the bus and free of cars for an emergency illegal foot crossing by me). Either is a risk.  There's no time, so I go with my gut. ... READ MORE...
